Languedoc Wine MapCorbières WineContact François & Marthe

Born in Normandy, a former wood engineer and son of a grain grower, François Lemarié
has opted for a life in the sun. He has a thousand southern experiences, firstly in Africa, the Antilles... and finally in the Corbières, with
Marthe, a nurse he met in the tropics.
They had not intended to become vignerons, yet, twenty years later while searching
for a house in the Corbières region they found Château Aiguilloux between Thézan and Montséret : 125
hectares, of which 37 were vines bordered by great 100 yr.old pine groves. The start of an adventure.
They knew nothing except the pleasure of drinking fine wines : they had a lot to learn... Their objective would be good drinking
wines, typical of their region, fruity, well constructed to be long lived, sufficiently complex to announce their own origins.
The
vineyards hug the sides of a rocky outcrop, typical of the high Corbières (argilo-calcaire) culminating at 235m in the ‘Roc de
la Bousole’ from which rises the ‘Aiguillous’ a Languedocian stream.
Old vines, Carignans, Grenaches, but also Cinsaults and Mourvèdres combine in the real ‘Mystery of Wine’. From their humble beginnings their growing expertise was finally crowned with success!
Often prize winning, the wines of Château Aiguilloux are to be found all around the world.
Marthe’s
story :
When she met François in the Ivory Coast, she was a professor of French, her students were adults holding
public office in the country.
Upon her return to Paris, City of her birth, she continued to work in a college teaching French to foriegn
students of all ages, some of them more than three times her own age ‘enthralling people’ she recounts. At this time she joined
François in studying horticulture, they had a vague idea of returning to Normandy to create a nursery, it was to be another two years before their
adventure in the Corbières would begin.
Marthe had no experience of children, not even having «baby-sat»
during her time as a student in Paris, so she was completely unprepared for the pleasure of raising their two children, Georges and Anne. Now, more
than twenty years later, the vines and the wine have completely absorbed them in this new adventure full of the unforeseen.
